Fostering Collaboration and Innovation Across the Globe

Written for McKesson Medical-Surgical

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to travel to another McKesson office for a few months to share ideas with colleagues in other areas of the world and gain a global perspective of our business?

The Global Procurement and Sourcing and Medical-Surgical Talent Exchange Program provides that opportunity to employees.

This exciting new initiative is an opportunity for an employee from one location/department to move to another location for an assignment lasting three months, and, while in this role, is responsible for executing on an approved project assignment.

Participants in the program will share thoughts and knowledge, as well as bring new perspectives to existing businesses, foster innovation, a risk-taking culture and provide new and innovative development opportunities.

During the exchange, participants will: build business and functional acumen, test and build skills in intellectual curiosity, relationships, organizational savvy, and overall leadership as well as contribute expertise and thought leadership.

The selection process for this program took a few months. Employees had to fill out a selfnomination profile and program application and return it to Ellen Raynor, Director of Talent Management. The employees had to share work experience, key strengths, type of work they would like to undertake during the Exchange, learning objectives to achieve, as well as technical abilities, areas to develop and preferred exchange location and duration.

The applications and performance data of employees were reviewed by a committee. Once decisions were made on who would be selected to participate and their project assignments, the nominees were notified. Then they began to work with Global Mobility on arrangements.

Recently, Stanton McComb announced congratulations to the employees chosen to participate in this new program: Fei Wang, Jesson Zafar and Jon Archer. All three of these employees currently work in the Richmond, VA headquarters.

Fei will be in Shanghai. She is currently in Materials Management and Global Procurement. Her project will be focused on our planning and logistics coordination for products sourced from China.

Jesson will be in London. He works in Marketing. He will support product and channel development for globally-sourced EU retail and Med-Surg products, an emerging growth area.

Jon will also be in London. He is in Materials Management/Global Procurement. His work will focus on our European and US supply chain support; he will follow the work that Tad Strong will start in January.

At the end of their time on assignment, Fei, Jesson and Jon will deliver a presentation to selected senior leaders regarding the work they performed, contributions they made as well as key learning and insights.

They will then return to their original roles in Richmond (or their home location, for future participants) and provide an overview with key learning and insights for their direct manager and peers.

The hope of this program is that for those who participate, they will continue to offer an informed perspective and promotion of the teams and operations they worked with abroad. And, share their experiences during the program to inspire others to participate in this global exchange initiative
